About the Journal

Balia: Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Development is a scholarly journal published by the Department of Economics and Development Studies, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Tadulako, Palu, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. It is a peer-reviewed, open-access online platform that utilizes a double-blind peer-review mechanism. Established in 2026, the journal is published biannually in June and December. Each issue comprises 5–10 articles, with a maximum of 20 articles per volume. The journal welcomes original research articles, review papers, and policy-oriented manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge and development practices.

Balia: Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Development focuses on interdisciplinary research related to disaster risk reduction, resilience, and sustainable development, with a particular emphasis on Global South perspectives. Conceptually, it is grounded in the traditional Kaili concepts of Tadulako and Balia, which are reframed as analytical metaphors. Tadulako represents adaptive leadership and risk governance under conditions of uncertainty and crisis, while Balia signifies community-driven processes for socio-ecological healing aimed at restoring equilibrium between human and environmental systems.

By integrating these principles, the journal positions itself as an adaptive intellectual leader in disaster risk governance, promoting knowledge that supports inclusive, resilient, and sustainable socio-ecological recovery. It aims to bridge local insights and global scholarly debates in the following areas: disaster economics and post-disaster recovery strategies; resilience and adaptive systems; green and sustainable economic development; and local development in disaster-prone and ecologically vulnerable regions. The journal welcomes theoretical, empirical, and policy-oriented contributions that explore transformative approaches to economic resilience and ecological justice, particularly from Global South perspectives.
